British C. SMITH & SONS Double Barrel SxS 12 Gauge C&R HAMMERLESS Shotgun
ROARING TWENTIES Era BOXLOCK Fowling Piece
Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R British C. Smith & Sons Boxlock Double Barrel Side by Side Hammerless Shotgun, made circa 1904 to 1925 in Newark, England. Charles Hubert Smith & Company was established in 1840, but was not recorded until 1897 when the business resided at 123 Steelhouse Lane in Birmingham. In 1922 the firm was recorded as Charles H. Smith, and in about 1924 it became C. Smith & Sons.
England and Belgium were the epicenter for European gunmaking all the way through the turn of the century. This is an English fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. This double barrel hammerless gun would have been used for putting game on the table, spending an afternoon skeet shooting, or defending one’s property.
The overall condition is good. This example is refinished. Strong action. The bore is shiny and smooth. Very good stock with nice checkering. Most markings are legible with some of the address illegible.
