British Boxlock SIDE-HAMMER .48 Caliber PERCUSSION Pocket Pistol by HORACE
BIRMINGHAM PROOFED Pistol Made Post-1813!
Here we present an antique English Percussion Pistol, made circa the mid 1800s in Birmingham, England. This pistol features a large .48 caliber “manstopping” bore that would have been worn on the belt or holstered as it was possibly carried into battle by a soldier purchased for himself who was wanting a backup weapon. This would have been contemporaneous to the American pistol named after its inventor: Henry Deringer.
This is a neat old pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its gaping bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels and would have made a stately weapon for self-defense in mid-19th Century Britain. It would have felt right at home in a gentleman’s coat pocket or inside a ladies purse or muff.
The overall condition is good. The action is strong. Good bore. “Horace” is engraved on the left stock. The grip is in good shape but the checkering has smoothed over slightly. English proofs can be seen on the left side of the barrel. A fine addition to any antique collection.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 4-1/4 inches.
Caliber: .48 Percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
