ENGRAVED and GOLD Banded Side by Side
Here we present an antique English Barber of Newark Flintlock Double Barrel Shotgun, made circa the mid to late-1700s/early 1800s in Newark, Nottinghamshire, England. Isaac Barber (1750-1823 or 1828) was a known active gunmaker in Newark, Nottinghamshire circa 1773 to 1823. He worked under his own name for most of his career before partnering with a man named Boaler.
This double barrel flintlock features Damascus twist barrels and gold banded breeches. The steel hardware is engraved with hunting scenes with game and dogs.
The overall condition is good+. Good Damascene twist patterns on the barrels with “TWISTED” and pre-1813 London proofs on the underside. The actions are excellent. The bores are smooth and patinated. The stock is solid. There are a few minor repairs on the wrist and in front of the locks.
