BRITISH Antique WAINHOUSE Double Barrel PERCUSSION Pistol w/SNAP BAYONET
ENGRAVED Mid-1800s .52 Caliber BOXLOCK
Here we present an antique Engraved British Wainhouse Double Barrel Percussion Pistol with a snap bayonet, made circa the 1840s-50s in Halifax, England. This example is an English double barrel sidehammer percussion pistol with a “manstopping” .52 caliber bore. It was of course, made primarily for self-defense, and very well would tell stories if it could. Much happened in Britain, in its colonies and abroad during this period. Its bores would have been very intimidating if by chance you were on the receiving end. This little jewel was extra special, because once one had expended their two shots, they had a backup bayonet for defense!
This self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the pocket or coat of anyone in the busy cities of London, Paris and Liege during the mid-1800s.
The overall condition is very good. Even patina throughout. The actions are excellent and crisp. The bores are smooth and patinated. The spring loaded bayonet is completely functional. Solid grip with a silver thumb plate. The pommel contains a flush fitting cap trap. The top of the barrels read “WAINHOUSE HALIFAX”.
