Product Description

BRITISH Antique TRANTER Type Revolver by J. MARKS of WINCHESTER, ENGLAND 35

Double Action Revolver from the UK!

Here we present an antique Tranter Type Revolver by J. Marks of Winchester, England, made circa the 1860s. J. Marks was known as a cutler, gunmaker, and even truss manufacturer located at 71 High Street “nearly opposite the Black Swan Hotel” in Winchester, as his advertisement notes in 1868. Of note regarding the Black Swan Hotel is that it was here that Sherlock Holmes visited with Watson in The Adventure of the Copper Beeches by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This revolver is about the size of the Colt Model 1849 but features a double action only mechanism. This one features 5 shots of .35 caliber and it would have been a very handy little sidearm for personal defense in 19th Century England.

Octagonal barrel with rammer captive on the left side. The top strap is marked ““J. MARKS WINCHESTER”.

The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. The bore is in nice shape with sharp rifling. The grip is in good shape with nice checkering. This is a very nice Tranter type of revolver from a seldom seen maker from Winchester, England!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 3-5/8 inches.

Caliber: .35 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
