Product Description

BRITISH 1801 Dated EAST INDIA COMPANY BROWN BESS Flintlock Musket EIC .75

With a RAMPANT LION on the Lock!

Here we present an antique British East India Company marked Flintlock Musket, made circa 1801. The Brown Bess was the adopted British musket from about 1722 to 1838. It saw periodic improvements all along the way but remained functionally the same the whole way through. This musket was used by the East India Company, and is dated “1801” with a Rampant Lion which was one of the symbols of the EIC. The left side of the breech-end of the barrel is London proof marked and has a heart motif, which the EIC also used. Atop the barrel you’ll find some hand engraved calligraphic designs. This one was almost certainly issued to indigenous troops and who knows how long this particular musket was in service!

The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. The bore is in good shape for its age. The lock is dated “1801”. Here is a great example of an early-19th century musket with a lot of history!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 39 inches.

Caliber: .75

Overall condition as seen in photos.
