BRIT IMPORT Antique COLT NEW LINE .32 Revolver Sold by COGSWELL & HARRISON
Hartsford Made and Exported to England
Here we present an antique Colt New Line .32 Caliber Centerfire Revolver, made in 1884 in Hartford, Connecticut, Sold by Cogswell & Harrison of London.
This example is London proofed and has the London firearms maker (known for their custom shotguns) and retailer’s name and address marked on the top strap of the frame: “COGSWELL & HARRISON/226. STRAND, LONDON.”
While we normally associate British firearms of this period with names such as Adams and Webley, Samuel Colt did have a manufacturing presence in England during the 1850s. Though short-lived, the company nevertheless persisted in exporting their wares to the British Isles.
This revolver utilized a .32 centerfire cartridge matched to a 5-shot fluted cylinder fitted to a 2-1/4” long round barrel. About 22,000 were produced in this caliber. This revolver was designed to be a small but potent self-defense revolver for stowing in one’s pocket in the 19th Century.
The overall condition is fine. Original blue finish. The action is excellent. The bore is clean and has sharp rifling. The grips are in great shape.
