BRASS BARRELED Antique KETLAND-SHARPE EXTRA PROOF FLINTLOCK Pistol
Early-1800s Trade Pistol .47 Caliber
Here we present an antique Brass Barreled Ketland-Sharpe Flintlock Pistol, made circa the early 1800s. The Ketland family was one of the biggest English gunmakers of the late-18th Century and early-19th Century. Sharpe was also a large gunmaker who was known for making pistols for trades in North America. This is a very familiar pattern and size for each of these firms. We believe that this one was made in Liege, then a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, now Belgium. It was not uncommon for gunmakers in Belgium to take advantage of the good reputations of gunmakers abroad to sell their wares.
This one has “SHARPE EXTRA PROOF” and a Liege proof on the top of the barrel. The lock is marked “KETLAND”.
The overall condition is good. Nice patina on the brass barrel. Markings are clear. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock has a split forward of the lock and is otherwise solid.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 8 inches.
Caliber: .47 Flintlock
Overall condition as seen in photos.
