BRACE of ENGRAVED DAMASCUS Barrel POCKET Pistols 50 Boxlock Belgian Antique
EBONY GRIPPED, FOLDING TRIGGER 1800s
Here we present a nicely engraved Matched Pair of Antique Belgian Boxlock Pocket Pistols, made circa 1850 in Belgium. These little self-defense pistols would have been most at home in the pocket of anyone in the busy cities of Europe during the mid-1800s. These were essentially the European version of what Henry Deringer was selling in the United States at this time.
These are relatively small pistols, about the length of a man’s hand that were typically sold in pairs. These have Damascus twist barrels with lovely engraving on the frames. The grips are smooth, solid ebony that are very hard and black in color. The triggers tuck into the inletting in the frame and come out when the hammers are cocked. .50 caliber with rifled bores.
The overall condition is near fine. Gray patina. Clear and beautiful Damascene twist barrels. Clear markings. The actions are excellent and strong. The bores are dim with good rifling. The grips are solid ebony and remain smooth with some signs of use. This is a fantastic set of pistols that have been together for nigh two centuries!
