Mid-19th Century BELGIAN MADE SWISS Military Pistol
Here we present an antique Beuret Freres Swiss Model 1842 Percussion Military Pistol made circa the mid-19th century in Liege, Belgium. This is a nice example of a Swiss Model 1842 cavalry percussion pistol made by the well-known Belgium gunmaker, Beuret Freres of Liege. Freres was registered at the Liege proof house as a gunmaker from 1836 to 1879.
The .69 caliber octagonal breech, round smoothbore barrel measures 7-1/8 inches. This pistol has multiple Crowned ‘B.F’ marks for Beuret Freres manufacture as well as serial number of “615” and “ZZ” (ZHS ZURICH) on the top flat. The pistol is fitted with regulation iron and brass furniture, including the lanyard ring on the skull crusher butt cap.
Beuret Freres was one of the many European made weapons is both rifle and musket form that were imported by both the North and the South for the American Civil War.
The overall condition is good. Excellent action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Barrel, lock, and hammer have been polished. Markings are sharp. The left side of the grip has a stable, repaired crack. Liege proofed barrel.
