BELGIAN Antique PERCUSSION .75 Caliber Rifle 19th Century Black Powder Long
Liege Made for Export to Colonial Outposts
Here we present an antique Large Bore Percussion Half Stock Rifle made circa the mid-1800s in Liege, Belgium. Liege has long been a manufacturing center for the world’s arms trade. This was possibly produced for sale to the African nations and colonies. It was built to be used as a wall gun, but these rifles would have been intended primarily for use against large beasts.
Many of these could have been exported to the European countries inhabiting these remote outposts. Historically, selling rifles to the African colonies was a carefully thought out project. They were very careful to sell only obsolescent firearms to the natives so that they could maintain the upper hand should tensions rise. This massive rifle features a gaping .75 caliber bore and rather thin barrel walls. The barrel bears Liege proof marks.
The overall condition is good. The action is not functional as the hammer will not hold either cocked position at present. The bore is well-rifled and dusty. The stock is solid.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 38-1/4 inches.
Caliber: .75 Percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
