Antique WINCHESTER Model 1873 .22 Short Caliber CONVERSION Repeater Rifle
Classic 1880s Repeating Rifle Converted from .44-40!
Here we present an antique Winchester 1873 Lever Action Rifle Converted to .22 Short, originally made as a .44-40 in 1886 in New Haven, Connecticut. The Model 1873 is one of the most iconic of American rifles. Given the moniker “The Gun that Won the West”, the 1873 was there during the Indian Wars and Range Wars of the late 19th century. Cowboys, Natives, settlers, miners, law enforcement, express companies and hunters all found these rifles as useful tools.
This example was uniquely converted from the .44-40 cartridge to .22 short. A custom brass magazine tube, sleeved barrel, lift and firing pin were all added, seemingly professionally.
The overall condition is very good. Crisp action. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Solid walnut stock with below average wear. A really sharp, one-of-a-kind Model 1873 Winchester conversion to .22 Short!
