Product Description
Antique SMITH & WESSON .38 S&W Double Action TOP BREAK Revolver
With FULL COVERAGE Floral Engraving & PEARL GRIPS!
Here we present an antique 2nd Model Smith & Wesson .38 S&W Double Action Revolver, made circa 1880 through 1884 in Springfield, Massachusetts with a total of 115,000 manufactured. This example has an attractive period engraving featuring a songbird on the left side of the frame and a punchdot motif throughout. It features the type of engraving that was more commonly found on Merwin, Hulbert & Co. revolvers but rarely seen on 19th century Smith & Wesson revolvers. The floral blossoms would have likely originally had colored accented centers. Matching serial numbers are on the butt, cylinder, barrel latch and barrel.
The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish with blue and case color accents. The action is as strong as ever. The bore is in great shape. The floral and dot motif style engravings are crisp. The mother of pearl grips are in excellent shape. Here is a great example of a revolver that would have been carried in the years prior to the turn of the century!
