Antique REMINGTON Rolling Block No. 1 INFANTRY Rifle .43 Late-19th Century
Simple & Rugged Military Arm
Here we present an antique Remington Rolling Block No. 1 Military Rifle, made circa 1874-88 in Ilion, New York. The Remington Rolling Block had a sturdy, simple action that was relatively inexpensive, just what many governments wanted in the latter half of the 19th Century. They were popular with civilians as well. Rolling block rifles were produced in various action sizes for calibers from .50 centerfire all the way down to .22 rimfire and survived well into the 20th Century. Compared to more sophisticated single shot actions like the Browning/Winchester Model 1885, the Remington Rolling Block was relatively economical to produce, and this contributed to its longevity.
The overall condition is good. Dark, original patina. The action is excellent. The bore is dim with strong rifling. The stock shows wear and remains solid.
