Antique REMINGTON-ELLIOT “Mississippi Deringer” RIVERBOAT GAMBLERS Pistol
VERY LOW TWO DIGIT SERIAL NUMBER “19”; 1 of <10,000
Here we present an antique Remington-Elliot “Mississippi” Deringer made from 1867-1888. Invented by William H. Elliot, less than 10,000 of these guns were made in all calibers in total over the 21 year production run. This inventive little single shot pistol is very simple in mechanics, having only three moving parts, which are the spur trigger, the main spring, and the combination hammer and breechblock. Place the hammer in the most rearward position and load a cartridge. The hammer also acts as the loading gate and breach block.
These have been nicknamed “Mississippi Deringers” due to the presumed popularity among riverboat gamblers steaming up and down the Mississippi River between Saint Louis and New Orleans, hoping to make their fortunes!
The overall condition is good. Traces of original barrel finish are present. Strong action. The bore is in good shape with a light shimmer and a few spots of pitting. Good grips, with a minor chip on the toe of the left side. The barrel has a pin front sight and “REMINGTONS. ILION.N.Y. / ELLIOT. PAT. AUG.27. 1867” on top. The very low matching two-digit serial number (19) is marked on the bottom of the barrel and bottom of the frame.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
