Product Description
Antique PIONEER American Settler SHOTGUN N. ASHMORE Back Action Lock
Made circa the 1850s
Here we present an Antique Back Action Full Stock American Percussion Long Shotgun, made circa the mid-19th Century. In the earlier years of the United States, a shotgun such as this would have been a necessary tool to have in all households. A shotgun like this would have been hanging over every fireplace in frontier American, and necessary to have if you wanted to eat, along with protection when ne’er do wells came around.
This would have been primarily a firearm designed for hunting small to medium sized game for the table. This one has a lightly engraved lock marked “N. ASHMORE”. It is relatively short and light, making it very handy. The rib under the barrel is of wood, which is a nice touch, being lighter than iron and simpler than a full-length, one piece stock.
The overall condition is good. Original finish and patina. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock shows use; there is a thin sliver on the left side of the forestock; otherwise solid. There appears to be a stamped name on the top left of the wrist but we cannot discern it. A neat piece!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 30 inches.
Caliber: 24 Gauge Percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
