Product Description

Antique PAIR of SILVER INLAID Germanic KUCHENREUTER Perc Conversion Pistols

Early 1800s BRACE of Fascinating INLAID PISTOLS

Here we present an antique Pair of Silver Inlaid Germanic Johann Adam Kuchenreuter Percussion Conversion Pistols built circa the early 1800s in the Bavarian Region of Germany. The Kuchenreuter family of Ratisbonne (Regensburg) were among the finest of Germanic gunsmiths in the 18th and 19th centuries. Joseph Kuchenreiter was the patriarch of this well know gunmaking family from Bavaria and was active between 1712 and 1769. These pistols would have started out life as flintlocks, and converted after the more reliable percussion firing system was introduced.

This type of pistol was very popular from the 18th and into the 19th Centuries in Europe, as well as the colonies that features a large “manstopping” .48 caliber bore that would have been carried in a coat pocket or holstered as it was possibly carried into battle after being privately purchased. These are neat old pistols and one can easily imagine the sight of their gaping bores would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels. It was of course made primarily for self-defense, especially in cities or traveling around the countryside.

The overall condition is good. Some original finish and patina. The action on one is excellent while the action on the other is not presently functional as the trigger mechanism has been replaced and the hammer does not presently engage. The bores are in good condition with good rifling. The stocks show use with the gun that is not functional having a bit of a chip on the left stock flat. Otherwise solid.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrels are 11 inches.

Calibers: .48 Percussion Conversion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
