Antique Ornate Eastern MEDITARRANEAN Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS Pistol Pirate
Ship Boarding and Coach Gun!
Here we present an antique Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistol, made circa 1800. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel flared at the muzzle and frequently throughout the entire bore and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which was for seafaring ships to board or repel uninvited boarders.
This example has been around the block a time or two. The action does not function. Aged patina in the smooth bore. Lightly engraved lock. Solid stock (light chipping around the lock and there is a stable crack on the left fore end). The trigger guard was replaced at some point. An interesting little blunderbuss from the eastern Mediterranean!
