Antique Non-Regulation Model 1860 Pattern Style LIGHT CAVALRY Saber
American Civil War Cavalry Style Blade w/SCABBARD
Here we present an antique Model 1860 Pattern Light Cavalry Style Saber. The 1860 was a lighter and nimbler successor to the 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber. The M1860 went on to be used by cavalry during the Indian Wars and even in the Spanish-American War. The Ames Mfg. Company alone produced 200,000 of these swords, with other contractors fulfilling several tens of thousands each. The overall length is 37 inches with the blade measuring 31-1/2 inches. It sports a brass hilt, wire wrapped wooden grip, and an iron scabbard.
The overall condition is fine. Bright blade. The stock is solid with tight brass wire. The grip has experienced some chipping on the leather grip. This example includes a fine scabbard with only minor dings and scuffs.
