Nicely Engraved NICKEL Pre-Colt Pistol

Here we present an antique National Arms Company No. 2 Deringer Pistol with the scarce 2-inch barrel, made just after the close of the American Civil War with a production run between 1865 and 1870 in Brooklyn, New York. Only 12,000 of these were made by National Arms before the company was purchased Colt. This scarce little Deringer is chambered for a single shot of .41 rimfire, a likely choice for very concealable self-defense in the last half of the 19^th Century.

The entire barrel swivels on a hinge for loading, when the hammer is put into half cock and the release button is pushed. The hammer is split and acts as the rear sight when in full cock. After the original maker, Moore’s, was purchased by the National Arms Co., the Colt Firearms Co. bought National Arms and started making the pistol in 1870!

This overall condition is very good. Gray patina. The action is excellent. The bore is clean with sharp, deep rifling. The grips have cracked and been repaired and are stable. The case is fitted and in fine shape.
