Antique FRENCH CHATELLERAULT Model 1845/55 Infantry OFFICER’S PATTERN Sword
With BRASS HILT, LEATHER GRIP and IRON SCABBARD
Here we present an antique French Chatellerault Model 1845/55 Infantry Officer’s Sword, manufactured circa the World War I Era. French Model 1845/55 Infantry Officers Sword had a production run between 1845 and the 1880s, with this example being made by Manufacture Nationale d’armes de Chatellerault.
This was the standard French Infantry Officer’s Sword in use from 1855 into the 1880s when it was replaced by the French Model 1882. The Model 1845/55 is basically the same as the French Model 1845, but with the modifications adopted in 1855, which included the re-shape of the blade and the change from the standard leather scabbard body to a metal scabbard body.
From the jungles of Indochina to the burning sands of the Sahara, and to the bloody trenches of the First World War, this sword served France and her empire for almost 100 years. The overall length of this sword is 37-5/8 inches and the blade measures 31-1/2 inches with manufacturer markings on the spine.
The overall condition is good. The blade has a few light dings and a nice patina. This example has a solid hilt with tight twisted brass wire. The spine is inscribed with manufacturers markings. Good scabbard.
