Antique FRENCH BRACE of Percussion OFFICER’S Pistols by ROGUET À ST. ETIENNE
SILVER & GOLD INLAID Pair of ENGRAVED Pistols!
Here we present a pair of antique French Percussion Officer’s Pistols made by ROGUET À ST. ETIENNE circa 1833-38 in St. Etienne, France. St. Etienne was a small city in east-central France whose history dates back well into the 13th century. In the mid-16th century, Saint Etienne started developing its arms manufacturing industry and became an epicenter for arms production. St. Etienne was also the home to one of the French owned weapons manufactories named the Manufacture d’Armes de Saint-Étienne, often abbreviated as MAS, and was established in 1764.
The overall condition is good. The actions are strong all around. The bores are dark with good rifling in each. Both locks and hammers have gold and silver inlays that read “ROGUET A St ETIENNE”. The inside of the lids on the butt are engraved with what appears to read “ROUX REBOD”. Both stock have seen cracks due to age, climate and use. Cracks are stable. Ramrods are absent. These are two fantastic French officer’s style pistols that would look great on display!
