Antique ENGLISH Engraved THOMAS GILL of LONDON .60 Caliber FLINTLOCK Pistol
Early 1800s Belt Pistol from St. James Street!
Here we present an antique Thomas Gill Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1815 in London, England. Thomas Gill is recorded as a sword cutler and gunmaker located at 83 St. James Street between 1806 and 1824. This self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the pocket of anyone in the busy city of London during the tumultuous times of the early 1800s. This pistol is nicely adorned with floral engraving and a nicely checkered stock. The “Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the “Saturday Night Specials” of the 16th-18th century.
Much happened in Britain, in its colonies and abroad during this period. Its .60 Caliber manstopping bore would have been very intimidating if by chance you were on the receiving end.
The overall condition is fine. The action is strong and it will spark. Very nice bore. The checkering on the grip is sharp! “T. GILL” can be read on the lock. “J.S.” is engraved in script on the rear escutcheon. This is a very well-preserved flintlock pistol from London!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 6 inches.
