Antique Double Barrel Shotgun by HOWSE Percussion Conversion in Violin Case
Early-19th Century Personal Defense Weapon!
Here we present an antique Howse Double Barrel Side by Side Percussion Conversion Shotgun, manufactured circa the early-19th century. This gun would have started out life as a flintlock and was converted when the more reliable percussion firing system was introduced.
The overall condition is good. Barrels dramatically shortened and the butt stock cut off. Dark patina throughout except at the muzzles. Strong actions. Smooth, patinated bores. There is an old chip forming behind the right lock. Otherwise solid. The case lid seems the most delicate part with various splits and a little bit of separation along the edge. The interior has been relined in felt and compartmentalized to hold all the various accoutrements. Accessories include a powder flask, a shot bag a powder measure, a nipple wrench, a patch cutter, a ramrod and lead ball, as well as a key to the case.
