Product Description

Antique COLT NEW LINE .38 Cal. ETCHED PANEL Pocket Revolver w/4-INCH BARREL

RARE 4-INCH Barrel WILD WEST Self Defense Gun

Here we present an antique Etched Panel Colt New Line .38 Caliber Centerfire Revolver, made circa 1874-80 in Hartford, Connecticut. A single action revolver, this small pocket revolver was one of a number of inexpensive handguns produced by Colt from 1873 to 1884. The “New Line” was Colt’s first production model handgun chambered for .38 caliber and outnumbered all other pistols in Colt’s “New Line” group. This revolver utilized a .38 centerfire cartridge matched to a 5-shot fluted cylinder with the vast majority of them fitted to a 2 ¼” long round barrel. This example is fitted with a very scarce 4-inch long round barrel. About 12,516 were produced in .38 caliber during its six year production run.

This revolver was designed to be a small but potent self-defense revolver for stowing in one’s pocket in the 19th Century. Spur Trigger “Suicide Special” manufacture was fierce during this time, and Colt struggled to compete against the countless small shops making very similar, less expensive revolvers, though not necessarily of the same quality. The Colt remained a steady, reliable force in firearms for much longer than the rest. This revolver features 5 shots of .38 Centerfire, a handsome wizened nickel finish and rosewood grips.

The overall condition is very good. Strong traces of original nickel finish remain with an even, dark patina making up the balance. The action is excellent. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling and a patina to match the exterior. The grips show wear and remain solid.

Here is a very handsome and collectible specimen of the Colt New Line .38!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 4 inches.

Caliber: .38 Centerfire

Overall condition as seen in photos.
