Product Description
Antique BRITISH 1801 Dated EAST INDIA COMPANY Sporting Flintlock Musket
With EAST INDIA COMPANY Heart Logo
Here we present an antique British East India Company marked Flintlock Musket that has been made into a sporting smoothbore gun, made in 1801. It features the heart logo of the Honourable East India Company on the lock and dated “1801” and additional calligraphic markings on top of the barrel along with London proofs and the East India Co. heart marking. The stock, cock, tall frizzen, and furniture all appear to have been made in Southeast Asia, possibly Nepal. This musket would have served as some point with the East India Company early and well into the 19th Century. It is very possible that it was witness to the Indian Mutiny in 1857. This musket shows signs of use well after it was made obsolete, likely in Indian or Nepalese hands.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape. This example sports a solid stock. A crack is present on the left side of the wrist and remains stable. Markings are legible. “1801” dated “Wilson” lock. The buttplate is missing. The middle barrel band has been replaced with leather cordage.
