Antique BOWN & TETLEY Full-Stock .36 Caliber Percussion American LONG RIFLE
PENNSYLVANIA Smoothbore HUNTING/HOMESTEAD Long Rifle
Here we present an antique Bown & Tetley Full Stock Percussion Long Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century. Bown & Tetley was established in 1848 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. By 1862, James Bown (1823-1901) was the sole owner.
This example’s stout octagonal barrel is in .36 caliber, large enough to take small to medium sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. Rifle manufacture in the mid-to-late 19th Century was rapidly changing over from thousands of craftsmen all over the United States and on the Frontier making and selling their wares, to the large factories with standardized assembly lines and modern manufacturing techniques.
The overall condition is good. Original dark patina. The action is strong. The bore is virtually smooth and has oxidized scale throughout. The forestock has a stabilized break at about the rear sight, otherwise solid.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 38 inches.
Caliber: .36 Percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
