Antique BLUNT & SYMS Saw-Handle Pepperbox Revolver
Rare Dragoon Sized Mid-19th Century Blaster
Here we present an antique Blunt & Syms Dragoon-Sized Saw-Handle Pepperbox Revolver, made circa the 1840s in New York, New York. A contemporary to Ethan Allen, Blunt & Syms made a few thousand total of a variety of pepperboxes. These pepperboxes were great repeating handguns carried in the big Eastern cities all the way to the gold fields of the California gold rush.
Blunt & Syms pepperboxes feature a ring trigger and a hammer on the bottom of the firearm instead of on top, making it a bit more streamlined. The hammer also has a small shield mounted on it to protect the user’s hand from the small detonation of the percussion cap. This one features a “saw handle” grip, placing the bore axis very low, since the bore at the bottom of the barrel cluster is the one firing. A belt hook is mounted on the left side. “RC” is the only visible marking as is typical from Blunt & Syms.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. About a third of the barrel cluster has some heavy pitting. There are no visible markings. The walnut grips are in very good condition. The bores are dark. The action on this pepperbox is strong.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
