Antique ALLEN & WHEELOCK .42 Rimfire RIFLE
Falling Block Single Shot Rifle in Rare .42 Allen
Here we present an antique Allen & Wheelock Falling Block Rifle in .42 Allen Rimfire, made circa the early 1860s in Worcester, Massachusetts. Fewer than 2,000 of these rifles are thought to have been made in any variant. It is chambered in the very rare .42 Ethan Allen—later, called the .42 Forehand & Wadsworth. It features a half-octagonal, half-round barrel with a very neat adjustable rear sight. The rear sight tips and its arm points to various ranges which also have notches which allow the arm to rest in under spring tension.
The top of the barrel is marked “ALLEN & WHEELOCK/ALLEN’S PAT. SEP. 18. 1860”. The butt plate has a cleaning rod trap. The serial number is “262” and numbers match.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are smooth with a light gray patina. The serial numbers match. The walnut stock is in very good condition, smooth and showing normal handling marks. The bore is sharp and bright. The action is excellent, strong and crisp.
