Antique .36 Caliber FLINTLOCK LONG RIFLE KETLAND ENGRAVED Full-Stock
Full-Length Maple Stock
Here we present an antique Flintlock Long Rifle with a Thomas Ketland Lock. This rifle features a 33 5/8” swamped octagonal barrel in .36 caliber pinned in a full-length striped maple stock. The top of the barrel has been embellished with engraving. The trigger is single set and must be set to hold the cock notches. The stock has a beautiful grain and has a large ornate brass patchbox inset on the right side and a silver starburst on the left cheekpiece. The lock plate is marked “T./KETLAND/&Co”. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. This is a light and slender gun with an overall length of 49 ½”, a length of pull of 13 ¾”, and weight of just under 6 lbs.
The overall condition is very good. Gray patina throughout. The action is excellent and crisp. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The stock shows a graft or repair at the nose of the comb and all is solid. This is a very neat flintlock that would have been great for smaller game.
