AMES Style M1860 Pattern CIVIL WAR Era Antique Brass Guard NAVAL CUTLASS
Style Used by the U.S. Navy for REPELLING/BOARDING
Here we present an antique unmarked Model 1860 Pattern Naval Cutlass, made circa the 1860s. The M1860 was a fantastic vessel boarding weapon in its time, and served well in its role in the U.S. Navy during the American Civil War. The cutlass has the distinctive brass, half-basket guard and helmet shaped brass pommel with leather wrapped wooden grip. Introduced in 1860, this style of cutlass remained the standard Navy edged weapon until a new model was adopted in 1917 and was still found in racks on American naval vessels at the beginning of WWII.
The overall length is 30-3/4 inches with a blade length of 25 inches.
The overall condition is good. The blade has maintained a dark gray patina. Both the hand guard and grip have a slight wiggle around the tang. The brass wire is missing from the leather wrapped grip. It would make a fantastic display for the Seaman, collector and historian alike.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Overall condition as seen in photos.
