AMES MFG CO. Antique CIVIL WAR Era U.S. M1850 Staff & Field OFFICER’S Sword
PATRIOTIC THEMED Blade with SCABBARD
Here we present an antique U.S. Ames Model 1850 Staff & Field Officer’s Sword made circa the Civil War Era in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The Model 1850 was produced from the period of the American Civil War through the time of the Spanish-American War. The overall length is 36 inches and the nicely etched blade measures 30-1/2 inches along with a gilt brass hilt, wire wrapped sharkskin grip, and a leather scabbard.
There are photographs of a U.S. soldier taken during the Spanish American War with one of these in hand. The blade is very nicely etched with an array of U.S. themed symbology and scrollwork. The handle is the original sharkskin, bound in braided wire.
The overall condition is good. The blade has a dull patina with traditional American patriotic etchings. Many deep blade dings are present. This example maintains a solid hilt with tight twisted brass wire. Markings are legible. The leather scabbard is in good shape, but is fragile and should be given cautious care.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
