Product Description
AMERICAN GUN CO. / CRESCENT ARMS 12 Gauge Double Barrel HAMMER C&R Shotgun
Early 1900s Curio & Relic Hunting/Sporting Shotgun
Here we present an American Gun Company C&R Double Barrel Side by Side Shotgun made by Crescent Arms of Norwich, Connecticut circa the early 1900s. American Gun Company was a name used by Crescent on its trade brand name guns, which were produced for many different retailers under many names from 1888 to 1931. Crescent would produce orders for as few as 12 guns if the customer would pay for a die to have its business name stamped on the receiver. Otherwise, you could order guns marked “American Gun Company” until shortly after WWI, at which point they were stamped “Crescent Arms.” Unfortunately, little is known about Crescent’s records as they were a victim of the war effort, having been donated to a paper drive sometime during World War II. This would have been primarily a sporting firearm designed for hunting fowl.
The overall condition is poor. Dark patina. The actions are functional. The bores are smooth with some reflectivity. There is some play between the barrels and the breech face. The stock is broken at the top of the wrist.
