.44 Russian AUSSIE Contract SMITH & WESSON New Model No. 3 Revolver Antique
With Australian Leather Flap Holster!
Here we present an antique Australian Contract Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Single Action Revolver & Holster manufactured circa 1890 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The revolver is finished in nickel and chambered for .44 Russian, an especially popular cartridge on that side of the world as Russian adopted it and then its arch-rival Japan. The leather flap holster is well-constructed and stamped with a “46” and a Broad Arrow on the interior of the flap. These were issued to law enforcement officials in the territories, which were largely wilderness.
Smith & Wesson revolvers, then as now, are some of the finest in the world. Excellently machined, well-proportioned and accurate. It is no wonder why so many records of the era were set with this revolver. Notable shooters and owners of the original No. 3 include Buffalo Bill Cody, Ira Anson Paine, F.E. Bennett, Annie Oakley, Frank Butler, General George Custer and Theodore Roosevelt.
The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish and strong case colors on the hammer. The action is strong and tight all the way around. The bore is mirror bright throughout! The numbers match. Both grips are firm with little handling wear. A fantastic rig from 19th Century Australia!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
