19th CENTURY Antique Center Hammer PERCUSSION 20 Gauge BOXLOCK Shotgun
Unmarked PERCUSSION Single Barrel Gun
Here we present an unmarked antique Boxlock Center Hammer Percussion Shotgun, made sometime in the mid-19th Century. A boxlock gun has the lock mechanism enclosed inside a kind of box, which actually is the hollow body of the frame, as compared to a sidelock gun where the mechanism is on the side. Shotguns like this were quintessential pieces for homes in rural areas or on the trail West. This hammer gun would have been used for putting game on the table or for protecting the homestead. Used for sport, provision and protection, shotguns then, like now, have always proven themselves invaluable.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. Dim, smooth bore, but in good shape. Solid stock. Here is a simple shotgun that would have been a go to for its owner!
