Product Description
1940 Dated World War II THIRD REICH German MAUSER “42” Code Model 98 Rifle
WAFFENAMT PROOFED German Third Reich Infantry Rifle
Here we present a C&R Third Reich German Mauser “42” Code “1940” Dated Model 98 Rifle manufactured in 1940. In 1898 the German Army purchased a Mauser design, the Model 98, which incorporated improvements introduced in earlier models. The weapon was originally chambered for the Patrone 88 and officially entered German service as the Gew. 98 on April 5, 1898. This remains by far the most successful of the Mauser designs, helped by the onset of two world wars that demanded vast numbers of rifles.
Manufactured early in World War II, this Mauser 98 bears the “42” code over the “1940” date on the receiver ring, along with Third Reich German Military inspection marks.
The overall condition is good. Original blue finish. Robust action. Bright bore. This example sports a solid stock; the butt plate is missing. Numbers match, except for the stock. Markings are sharp. Receiver was drilled and tapped and later filled. German proofs can be found throughout.
