1925 mfg. COLT M1908 POCKET HAMMERLESS .380 ACP Semi-Automatic C&R PISTOL
ROARING TWENTIES Era Self Defense Pistol
Here we present a Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless Semi-Automatic Pistol manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut in 1925 with a production run between 1908 and 1945. The Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless was a short-recoil, semi-automatic pistol, designed by the American arms designer John Moses Browning. The Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless is a .380 ACP caliber, self-loading semi-automatic pistol. It is a small frame model “M” pistol that was originally developed off of the Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless platform. Shipments primarily were targeted towards commercial sales but also foreign and U.S. Government contracts.
Despite the title “hammerless”, the Model 1908 does have a hammer. The hammer is covered and hidden from view under the rear of the slide. This allows the pistol to be carried in and withdrawn from a pocket quickly and smoothly without snagging. Approximately 570,000 Colt Pocket Hammerless pistols were produced from 1903 to 1945, in five different types. Some were issued to U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force general officers from World War II through the 1970s.
