1918 mfr. Winchester Model 1885 LOW WALL Rifle Chambered for .22 Hornet C&R
With Scope Blocks Installed
Here we present a Winchester 1885 Low Wall Rifle, chambered in .22 Hornet, made circa 1918 in New Haven, Connecticut. Ironically, this was Winchester’s first single shot rifle, the company having been founded on its winning lever action repeater design. John Moses Browning, the famed gun designer who forever changed the firearms landscape, began his career with this rifle in the 19th Century before dominating the world scene in the 20th Century.
This one was originally made for a different cartridge but was later converted to .22 Hornet, a good varmint cartridge released circa 1930. The furniture has been customized, namely the forestock. Includes sling swivels.
The overall condition is very good. Excellent action. Bright bore with nice rifling. Solid walnut stock.
