1903 COLT Small Frame LIGHTING .22 Caliber Rimfire SLIDE ACTION Rifle C&R
Pump Action Rifle Made in 1903
Here we present a Colt Lightning Small Frame Slide Action Rifle, made in 1903, in Hartford, Connecticut. This was Colt’s entry into the slide action rifle market (and the pistol caliber carbine/rifle market in the larger sizes), which was absolutely dominated by Winchester at this time with their Model 1890.
The overall condition is fine. Original blue preserved! The rampant colt can be seen engraved on the left side of the receiver. Excellent, smooth action. This one is missing the spring that holds the rim of the cartridge as the loading gate (the brass piece in front of the receiver) is loaded. It looks like the screw that held it on broke and it was never replaced. The rifle can still be loaded by moving the loading gate inward so that the rim simply catches on the edge of the receiver, which is probably how it continued to be used. Bright bore. Solid walnut stock. A very clean example of a Colt Lightning!
