18th Century GERMANIC Antique FLINTLOCK CARBINE Stutz Rifle Carved Ivory
With CARVED and INLAID STOCK
Here we present an antique Germanic Stutz Flintlock Carbine, made circa the mid-18th Century. This is essentially a stocked pistol with a deeply rifled octagonal barrel that measures .475 from land to land. This was made for ease of use and handiness from the back of a horse. Like other Germanic rifles of the time, this one has a boxy stock with a sliding wooden patchbox as well as a carved wooden trigger guard. Ivory has been embedded in the stock throughout. The wood has been carved throughout including some nice scrollwork and leaf & acorn embellishments. The letter “Z” appears twice at the rear of the butt stock. The barrel is marked “PJ” or “PF” “Eichhorn”.
The overall condition is good. Modestely refinished long ago. The action is excellent. The double set trigger works well and the cock and frizzen will throw a spark. The bore is in very good condition with deep and sharp rifling. The stock has been repaired around the area of the lock and remains solid. The cock screw is absent but the cock does not come off easily. A very nice and very scarce carbine from the 18th Century German States!
