Product Description

18th Century FREDERICK V DANISH MILITARY Antique FLINTLOCK Pistol DRAGOON

RARE F5 Monogrammed .69 Caliber

Here we present an antique Rare Danish Frederick V of Denmark Monogrammed Dragoon Flintlock Pistol, made circa the 1750s-60s. This Danish flintlock military pistol was made during the reign of Frederick V, King of Denmark-Norway and Duke of Schleswig-Holstein from 1746 to 1766. These are very rare, and seldom seen on the market, especially in the original flintlock configuration. This is a nice example of the Danish Dragoon Flintlock Pistol with a 12-1/2″ barrel.

Frederick V was King of Denmark and Norway and Duke of Schleswig-Holstein from August 6, 1746, until his death in 1766. He was the son of Christian VI of Denmark and Sophie Magdalene of Brandenburg-Kulmbach. Although the personal influence of Frederick was limited, his reign was marked by the progress of commerce and trade, and art and science prospered under his reign. Unlike his parents who were deeply devoted to Pietism, Frederick grew into a hedonist. As regent, he took part in the conduct of government by attending council meetings, but he was afflicted by alcoholism and most of his rule was dominated by able ministers who were influenced by the ideas of the Age of Enlightenment. His ministers marked his reign by the progress of commerce and emerging industry. They also avoided involving Denmark-Norway in the European wars of his time. Although Frederick V wasn’t personally interested in cultural affairs, his first wife was, and the public entertainment and freedom of expression that had been banned during his father’s reign was again permitted.

The pistol features a nice hardwood stock with heavy iron mounts and is very substantially made. These classic Danish pistols were in service throughout the Napoleonic wars, when Denmark allied itself to France and suffered two terrible Naval Defeats at the hands of the British, firstly by Admiral Horatio Nelson in 1800 and again in 1808, at what were to be known as the Battles of Copenhagen. Any Danish flintlock pistol of this period is scarce. Here is a nice military, scarce, and historical Danish Pistol from one of the most pivotal times in European history that likely fought in and survived the Napoleonic Wars!

The overall condition is good. Gray patina throughout. Original flintlock. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and in great shape. The stock has a split on the left side in front of the side plate, a chip at the toe and a chip under the ramrod channel into the front of the lock inlet. Matching number 2 throughout.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 12-1/2 inches.

Caliber: .69 Flintlock

Overall condition as seen in photos.
