1893 Antique WINCHESTER 1885 LOWWALL .44-40 WCF Single Shot Rifle WILD WEST
With Part-Octagon, Part-Round Barrel
Here we present an Antique Winchester Model 1885 Low Wall Rifle, chambered in .44-40 WCF, made in 1893 in New Haven, Connecticut. The Model 1885 Single Shot rifle was famed gun designer John M. Browning’s first design and patent, and it was the first single shot to be built by Winchester. The patent for the Model 1885 rifle was what brought Browning and the Winchester Repeating Arms Company together for the beginning of their eventual 19-year association. Nearly 140,000 Model 1885s (both Low Walls and High Walls) were manufactured from September 1885 to June of 1920.
The overall condition is good. Dark patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is reflective of light with worn but decent rifling and some scattered, mild pitting. The stock shows use. There is a short, stable crack to the right side of the front of the fore arm. The fore end inlay has been replaced. There in a number 1 marked on the bottom of the part octagonal/part round barrel. These are quite scarce in this chambering and would have been a great companion with a Colt Single Action Army!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 26 inches.
Caliber: .44-40 Winchester Center Fire
Overall condition as seen in photos.
