1883 FRENCH Military CHATELLERAULT M1882 INFANTRY OFFICER’S Saber SCABBARD
With BRASS HILT, LEATHER GRIP and IRON SCABBARD
Here we present an antique French Chatellerault Model 1882 Infantry Officer’s Saber, manufactured in 1883 at the Chatellerault Arsenal. This is a stiff, thrust centric sword with no read edge to speak of. The profile taper is very pronounced and fairly even, with the blade forming a very neat point much like an epee. However, the distal taper is somewhat less pronounced, adding to the stiffness of the blade.
The overall length of this sword is 40 inches and the blade measures 34-1/2 inches with manufacturer markings on the spine. It sports a brass hilt, a wire wrapped leather grip, and an iron scabbard.
The overall condition is very good. The blade has retained a bright finish. Solid hilt throughout. Markings are legible. The scabbard is in good shape.
Overall length: 40-1/2 inches.
Blade length: 34-1/4 inches.
