Product Description

1876 Cased OXFORD STREET LONDON REILLY COLT NEW LINE .41 Revolver Antique

Originally Advertised as the “BIG COLT”

Here we present an antique Cased London Retailer Marked Etched Panel Colt “New Line” .41 Caliber Revolver made in 1876 in Hartford, Connecticut. This handy little 5-shot Colt, referred to as the “Big Colt” when it came out, carried quite the punch for a pocket self-defense revolver. The large caliber of this variation makes it the most desirable of the “New Lines” with approximately 10,702 manufactured from 1874-1879 due to the short production run. This revolver was designed to be a small but potent self-defense revolver for stowing in one’s pocket in the 19th Century.

The New Line series of revolvers, including all calibers, was a single action pocket revolver introduced by the Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company in 1873 and continued through 1884. Two years after the Colt House Revolver, a year after the Colt Open Top, and almost simultaneously alongside the Colt Peacemaker, the Colt New Line was one of the first metallic cartridge, rear-loading revolvers manufactured by Colt. With such a limited number of examples and the larger caliber, this is a very desirable firearm for a Colt collector.

This example has London proofs along with the London retailer “E.M. REILLY & Co. / 502 NEW OXFORD ST. LONDON”” marked top strap. The case has an E.M. Reilly & Co. label, oiler, combination screwdriver/cleaning rod, and five cartridges.

The overall condition is fine. Original nickel finish with blued accents has been preserved. The action (hammer/trigger) is excellent but the cylinder does not properly lock up on every chamber. Excellent bore, it remains bright and nicely rifled. Both grips are in good shape and contain light handling wear. Sharp markings. The case and accoutrements are all in fine condition.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 2-1/4 inches.

Caliber: .41 Centerfire

Overall condition as seen in photos.
