1873 mfg. Antique COLT NEW LINE .22 RF 7-Shot Pocket Revolver NICKEL FINISH
Among the First WILD WEST/FRONTIER Metallic Cartridge Revolver
Here we present an antique Colt New Line .22 Revolver, made in the second year of production in 1873 in Hartford, Connecticut. The New Line revolver, a single-action pocket firearm, was introduced by Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company in 1873 and was produced until 1884. The .22 caliber version, which was particularly popular for self-defense at the time, was made between 1873 and 1877.
This revolver was released almost simultaneously with the iconic Colt Peacemaker. The Colt New Line was among the first metallic cartridge, rear-loading revolvers that the company created. It was designed to be easily carried in a pocket, making it a convenient choice for those seeking personal protection.
One of the standout features of the New Line is its ability to hold seven rounds of .22 rimfire ammunition. In fact, among all the Colt “New Line” revolvers produced, the .22 caliber model was unique for its seven-shot cylinder, while all other calibers were limited to a five-shot cylinder. This little revolver holds a special place in history, combining practicality with Colt’s renowned craftsmanship.
The overall condition is good. The bore has retained most of its shimmer with nice rifling. The action partially functions, as the cylinder does not index. Both grips have a good amount of handling wear and a thin stable grain split. Legible markings. Numbers match.
