1870s Antique FOREHAND & WADSWORTH .22 RF Side Hammer Revolver WILD WEST
1870s 7-Shot .22 RF Pocket / SELF DEFENSE Revolver
Here we present an antique Forehand & Wadsworth Side Hammer Revolver Pocket Revolver, manufactured circa the 1870s in Worcester, Massachusetts. This revolver features 7 shots of .22 Rimfire and would have been an alternative to the Colt Open Top or the S&W No. 1 revolvers of the time. This design goes back to Ethan Allen’s original design and was manufactured by Allen’s sons-in-law: Sullivan Forehand & Henry C. Wadsworth.
One of the most distinctive features of this revolver is the side-mounted hammer. The left side of the barrel is marked “FOREHAND & WADSWORTH WORCESTER, MASS./PATS SEPT. 24 & OCT.22.1861”. This would have been a very handy little revolver to have stashed in one’s coat pocket while sitting at the poker table in the turbulent times of the westward expansion in the Wild West.
The overall condition is fair. Original nickel finish. The action is mobile and has spring tension but the hammer does not hold the cock notches and the cylinder does not lock up. The hammer cap screw is absent. The bore is dark. The grips are solid.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 2-3/8 inches.
Caliber: .22 Rimfire (short, black powder)
Overall condition as seen in photos.
