Product Description
1800s Antique 10 GAUGE FOWLER GERMAN SILVER HARDWARE Frontier Pioneer .78
Short Heavy Smoothbore Musket
Here we present an antique Percussion Smoothbore Fowler, made circa the early 1800s. This example would have started out life as a flintlock and converted sometime after the more reliable percussion firing system was introduced. This would have been an incredibly necessary and versatile tool for the frontiersman and pioneer in North America. This was is a bit shorter than many like it with a 33” barrel in .78 caliber or 10 gauge. It could have fired a .78 caliber ball, shot, or a combination of buck and ball for anything from hunting to defending the homestead to militia duty.
The overall condition is good. Original patina. The action is excellent, holding both half- and full-cock notches. The bore is smooth and patina. The stock shows use and some period damage (delamination of the grain in the area) and repair around the wrist—very small nails secure that are oriented at the points of a compass; otherwise solid.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
