FINE Antique LIONHEAD POMMEL Saber GOLD ETCHING on NITER BLUE Field
ANTIQUE IVORY GRIP with SILVER FINISHED BRASS HILT
Here we present an antique Lionhead Pommel Small Sword made circa the early 1800s. The Lion Head pommel ornament became extremely popular in the 1750 in continental Europe and Britain with examples of this pattern continuing well beyond the American Revolution.
This beautiful sword has a blade with gold accented etching of scrolls and panoplies on a niter blue field. Along with lion motifs on the silver finished brass hilt, antique ivory grip panels, and a leather scabbard this sword is a rare piece in this condition. The overall length of this sword is 36 inches and the blade measures 31 inches.
The overall condition is fine. Straight blade with original fire blue and gold finishes. Solid hilt with beautiful castings. There is a lions head pommel with a full lion on the guard and symbols all over the bow. There is a small bust on the hanger of the leather scabbard. The leather scabbard is in very good condition, especially for the age. Solid ivory grips.
