WILD WEST Era Antique SMITH & WESSON 2nd Model .38 DA Revolver INDIAN WARS
Early & Classic Self Defense Revolver
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique 2nd Model Smith & Wesson .38 S&W Double Action Revolver, made circa 1880 through 1884 in Springfield, Massachusetts with a total of 115,000 manufactured. The serial number range on these 2nd Models ranged between 4,001 and 119,000. This would have been a staple in the early 1880s when having a revolver in one’s possession was almost a necessity, especially in the closing years of the wild west and Indian Wars. This revolver would have been manufactured just before the Apache Indian War between 1885 and 1886.
The Model 2 in .38 S&W was made in five different variants. The initial model run consisted of 4000 revolvers in 1880. The second model was improved and a total of 115,000 of these were manufactured from 1880 until 1884.
The overall condition is good. Original polished gray patina. This example only functions in double action. Good bore for its age, frosted appearance with serviceable rifling. Both grips are missing a chip from the bottom and have smoothed checkering. Legible markings. Numbers match.
