Product Description
1980 mfr HIGH STANDARD “Sharpshooter-M” .22 RF Modern Target Pistol PLINKER
With a Reputation for RELIABILITY and ACCURACY
Here Ancestry Guns presents a High Standard Adjustable Sight “Sharpshooter-M” Target Pistol, made in 1980 in East Hartford, Connecticut with a production run between 1971 and 1983. Production serial numbers started to begin with the ‘m’ during the transition to the East Hartford plant. The slant grip Sharpshooter had the name “THE SHARPSHOOTER” stamped on the left side of the barrel. The blued military grip Sharpshooters are marked “SHARPSHOOTER-M” on the frame. These were continued in the Series 108 guns as the model 9210. The High Standard Mfg. Co. was officially founded in 1926 and in 1932 it moved to a bigger plant in Hamden, Conn., where production began.
One of the more infamous uses of the High Standard .22 was by one of our lettered agencies’ assassination efforts. This silenced pistol was known as the “Hush Puppy”. Another interesting example was President Dwight Eisenhower’s engraved and cased presentation “Space Gun” described in a “Guns and Shooting” Online article.
High Standard’s production over the years has been vast. Over time, it mainly produced handguns, including plinkers, target guns, long and short barrels, as well as serious competition pieces. If you’ve ever heard the term “space gun”, odds are good that they were talking about High Standard.
